Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then discovered many other marked cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state early analysis indicate the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; officials are not yet informed of any injuries in connection with the event," they added.
Local authorities said they were working "to resolve the case" and have asked to the community for tips.
A senior representative commented the incident made him stunned and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist attack five years ago," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine victims by a gunman targeting individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
